Is my computer good for gaming?

I have a hp pavilion dv4 notebook pc

Intel core duo processor

4 gb of Ram

64 bit operating system

The reason im asking is because i went to canyourunit.com and it said my video card did not meet the minimum requirements for Civilizations IV but everything else did. Please help!!Is my computer good for gaming?
Your computer has good specs, except for the video card. Most laptops won't upgrade their video cards. I recommend just playing Civilization III. It is almost as good and it requires almost nothing to run well.Is my computer good for gaming?
If the video does meet the requirements it is not good, the display device is the weakest part of the laptops running gamesIs my computer good for gaming?

Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home?

I need some help answering these questions about Star Trek IV. Any answers would be helpful. =]

1. During Spock's memory tests, the computer speaks very rapidly, almost too rapidly to discern. The first question it asks Spock is, "Who said 'Logic is the cement of our civilization, with which we ascend from chaos, using reason as our guide'?" What was Spock's reply?

2. What do you think the ball on the probe represented?

3. What substance was Scotty trying to get to recrystallize so they could return home with the whales? Give the name and the chemical formula.

4. When Chekov is captured by the crew of the USS Enterprise, what does he end up doing to try and make his escape?

5. How does Spock get the whales to agree to help them?

Thanks for your help!Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home?
T'plana-Hath, matron of Vulcan philosophy

I rthink it was a focal point of the energy from the probe

He was trying to get the dilithium crystal to do this, but they were going to inject high-energy photons from fission reactors to do this (I hope you do not mean invisible aluminum)

He pulls his phaser on them, but it doesn't work, so he tries to run away, but misjudges and falls

Although not mentioned, I think he promises them a safe noew world to live inStar Trek IV: The Voyage Home?
1. I Think Spoke said "Nothing Unreal exist"

2. The Ball I think was like an Antenna Like Transmitter

3. Scotty was trying to Re-Cyrtalise Dillithium, The Time Travel had Drained Them, Scotty used the High energy Protons Found as a by-product of old style Nuclear Reactors, The Reactor they took them from was the USS Enterprise

As For the name of the Chemical Formula ? IDK

4. He took that Portable Klingon Phaser That Disdn't work (Because of the Radiation) and tossed it at the CMDR. on the Enterprise and Ran , But He fell off the deck and was injured and taken to a Hospital.

5. Spoke Mind Meld with the whales.

Just choose some folder, any folder, it doesn't matter as long as it's on a drive that has enough free space.

Look for a README file inside the rar that may have some more information how to install the game.

10.What policies did Peter the Great pursue to strengthen his authority?Western Civilization Questions. (History)?
I have a feeling that you are in the same class I am...maybe even at the same school! Here is my entire quiz review, if there are questions that you don't have, then only take what you need...

1.What sorts of people formed the ruling elite of the northern Italian city states?

?Wealthy merchants or religious leaders

2. What were the most important differences between medieval and Renaissance art?

?Italian Renaissance art - depicted many Ancient Mediterranean themes (Roman/Greek); realistic linear perspective, emphasis on the relationship between light and shadow, and a glorification of nature and the human figure.

?Medieval art - Disproportionate (body parts wrong), perspective absent or wrong, all faces the same, unrealistic, two dimensional, flat, and dull, and religious themes

3. How did humanists believe that life should be lived?

?A secular ideology which espouses reason, ethics, and justice, whilst specifically rejecting supernatural and religious dogma as a basis of morality and decision-making.

?Derives the goals of life from human need and interest rather than from theological or ideological abstractions, and asserts that humanity must take responsibility for its own destiny.

4.In The Prince, what did Machiavelli say was a ruler's principal responsibility, and how did he advise a ruler to behave?

?The ruler's responsibility was to rule through fear rather than love and to go through any means necessary to enhance his power.

5.How did Martin Luther believe that human beings could be justified before God?

?Through faith and faith alone

6.What are indulgences and what upset Luther about how they were being offered?

?Indulgences were issued by the Popes. You could buy one of these to absolve you of a sin, say theft or something like that, and let you bypass purgatory and go straight to heaven. It was essentially allowing the Church to raise funds at an excessive rate to expand its political power. Martin Luther was upset when the Pope declared Albert of Mainz could sell them rather than people having to earn them. The Pope went so far as to sell them for those who had already died.

7.What did Luther and other Protestants believe was the only source of Church doctrine?

?The Scripture (The Bible)

?Sola Scriptura

8.What happened at the Diet of Worms?

?Diets were general assemblies of the Imperial Estates of the Holy Roman Empire. Several of them took place in the city of Worms, in what is now Germany.

?Edict of Worms: Addressed Martin Luther and the effects of the Protestant Reformation

?9.Why did Henry VIII reject papal authority over the Church of England?

?He wished divorce and it also extended his political power in his realm. It was not for actual religious reasons.

10. What religious policy did Elizabeth I pursue?

?To see to the needs of both religions she created The Church of England (the Anglican Church) in which she was the supreme head. In this church she instituted Protestant ideas as well as Catholic ideas, basically merging the two religions under one church.

?Via Media

11. What was the Council of Trent and what did it accomplish?

? Eliminated much corruption

? The Council of Trent was meant to reform the church. It essentially looked over Church doctrine and validated it, asserting that the Church was still correct. Many say it was the epitome of the Counter Reformation to crush Protestantism.

12. How did the Protestant Reformation affect the way people understood the role of the individual in the Christian life?

? Individual at center of “drama of salvation”

? The priesthood of ALL believers

13. How did Henry IV deal with the conflict between Catholics and Huguenots in France?

? As a Huguenot, Henry was involved in the Wars of Religion before ascending the throne in 1589. Before his coronation as king of France at Chartres, he changed his faith from a Huguenot to Catholicism and, in 1598, he enacted the Edict of Nantes, which guaranteed religious liberties to the Protestants and thereby effectively ended the civil war.

14. What effect did the Peace of Westphalia have on the Holy Roman Empire?

? European settlement that ended the Thirty Years' War

? Shattered the unity of The Holy Roman Empire forever

15. What effect did the Protestant Reformation have on the authority of the State?

? Absolutism

? Absolute Monarchy strengthened by the Reformation

16. According to Thomas Hobbes, who created government and why? What authority did Hobbes believe the government should possess?

? Power was derived from an implicit contract between the ruler and his subjects. As long as they were protected from each other and foreigners, the ruler was using his power correctly and in a way that is best for everyone

17. What did Bishop Bossuet teach about the origin of government and its responsibilities?

? Asserted divine right, that God gave them the power to rule

18. How did Louis XIV reform the French government to enhance his authority?

? He would often support up and coming noble families and make each family fight for his praise and support. He mandated that all nobles maintain some time at Versailles so they could be watched, the more you were suspect, the more time you had to spend

19. Why was Versailles important to Louis XIV?

? As a symbol of the system of absolute monarchy

? Versailles was the political and administrative capital of the kingdom. By providing enough space to house the courtiers, the chateau and its outbuildings helped to "domesticate" the French nobility. Under the king's watchful eye, great lords no longer plotted--they remained with the court, ready to please and serve the king.

20. How did Frederick William strengthen his control of Brandenburg-Prussia?

? Made a deal with the Nobles to establish an Absolute Monarchy

o Nobles received authority to rule the peasants as they saw fit

o Nobles gave obedience, military service, and taxes in return

21. What policies did Peter the Great pursue to strengthen his authority?

? He attempted to westernize the aristocracy and he supplanted the noble families. If a person supported him and helped him do something outside the usual call, he would be granted nobility but it could always be taken away. He also suppressed numerous rebellions with his army

Can you suggest an inexpensive graphic card?

I have a dell 4500 that is about 4 yrs old. Its a Pent 4, 2ghz with 40 gb hd and 256 DDRam. I thought I had a graphics card but never used the computer to play games with. Well I bought Civilization IV and want to play it. I have plenty of memory and speed but for some reason it says I don't have a graphics card. I do have a sound card but not graphics. I have reinstalled windows a few times...maybe the graphics card wasn't reinstalled?

Regardless, I want to buy a graphics card SOLELY for this game. I don't want to spend $300 but maybe $50-$75...could you suggest one? I need to be able to buy it at best buy or circuit city. Again, I am not a gamer, but want to be able to play this game. If a 25$ card would work...even better! I barely use the computer, and always use a laptop but the laptop isnt quick enough. The game requires a 128 MB Video Card w/ DirectX 8 support (pixel %26amp; vertex shaders).

PLease recomend a card to work...I may buy more RAM too.

Thank you!!!Can you suggest an inexpensive graphic card?
I think the Dimension 4500 has an AGP slot. According to the specs I read, it comes with a GeForce4 MX 420 graphics card with 64MB of DDR SDRAM. Which won't run Civ 4.

I have a similarly aged computer and I put in a 256 MB Nvidia Geforce 6200, which is about as fast a card as I would like to put in it. Cost me about $50 CND. It runs Civ 4 quite well, although I doubt spending more on a better card would improve performance much. If seriously playing Civ 4 is important to you, it might be time to consider saving for a new computer.

Really if you want to run Civ 4, you should consider putting at least 512 MB of RAM more into your system (if not up it to a gig).

Can my computer run GTA IV at decent framerates?

I just built a new computer for myself and I consider it to be pretty powerful. It can run games like Civilization V and Left 4 Dead 2 on highest settings. But for some reason, when I play GTA IV with moderate settings, the gameplay is very bad. Things lag like crazy when I'm driving and it makes both cars and Niko hard to control. This is really confusing to me, as this game came out a couple years back, and this PC is brand new and pretty powerful. Here are my specs:

    Windows 7 64-bit

AMD Phenom II X6 1100T (6 cores @ 3.3 GHz, with 3.7 GHz turbo core mode)

Sapphire Radeon HD 5770 w/ 1 GB of DDR5 memory

    8 GB DDR3 RAM

Any help? Can my computer run GTA IV at decent framerates?

i have a new macbook. i don't know if it has the correct graphics card to play civ 4. i recently bought a game and it would not work because of this reason. i do not want to make the same mistake twice. Will the game civilisation IV work on a macbook?
the Mac OS is completely different from Windows, the games are formatted differently. You may need to search for the game in mac format. I took the liberty in finding the game on the Apple website for you c:

Enjoy your mac book, there truly amazing machines. Will the game civilisation IV work on a macbook?
    yes

I still have Civilisation IV problems?

Thanks to the person who answered my last question, but i am still having problems.

First of all, i can only see the leaders eyes and mouth.

Also all of the animal resources are little black things like their shadow.

Finally (problem wise) Parts of the map are black. sometimes the sea is ok but not for long. The only parts of the map that i can see are the bits in the top Right corner of the screen.

I have downloaded patches for this, but when i tried to install them, it said something like "Cannot find Civ 4 on this computer". I have installed loads of times but it doesn't help.

Also when i get the upgrade (the one under lan connection) i can not get on to it at all. it comes up with a message saying "cannot find such and such, reinstalling may fix the problem" and guess what? It didn't ;(.

Please can i have a lot of help.

Oh and i have reinstalled the game millions of times onto my Windows xp, dell.I still have Civilisation IV problems?
It may be to do with your graphics card and processor. The processor isn't fast enough to run the graphics in time, but the graphics card is letting it down anyway so not everything is showing properly. If it is this the only option is a hardware upgrade.

Patches can only help with so much. They repair any glitches and so on, but overall if your hardware can't handle the game it won't help.

I don't know what your PC specs are though to know if this is likely to be the problemI still have Civilisation IV problems?
Try reinstalling your video card's latest drivers. Find out by going to Start, then run and then type in dxdiag, then go to the video tab ontop of the Direct X Diag Window and type in the video card's model name in the internet with the driver in the search. Example: ATI Radeon HD 4750 driver.

I've played Civ Revolution, but I want to buy a PC version. Should I get Civ IV or V?

I LOVE Civilization Revolution on the PS3, but I want to get a version that's more complex, which would be either 4 or 5. I know Civ 4 is older but i heard both are great. Which should i get? Thank you.I've played Civ Revolution, but I want to buy a PC version. Should I get Civ IV or V?
I have played both. Civ V takes it to another level, but if you are looking to save some money and are not entirely certain the PC version is going to be all you want it to be, Civ IV is a lot cheaper because it is older, and the graphics are just as excellent (IMO). I prefer the gameplay controls (zooming, movement) of Civ IV, personally, but that is entirely subjective as a good friend of mine says HE prefers them on V, so...

The games are really quite close in comparison.

a couple of the games i play on my widescreen laptop im pretty sure dont support a widescreen view (according to the options in the game) as of right now, the games play with their original resolution, with just black area on each side. for some reason this just bothers me, and i would rather have the game be stretched horizontally a little bit, or kindof have the game be a window that i can minimize %26amp; move around (like you can with solitaire) is there a way to get that?

you just go into the graphics settings, and look for an option that says "windowed mode" or something similar, or if there is a "fullscreen" checkbox, then just uncheck it. if you don't find it in the options, then look under that advanced tab. this won't be necessary with new games though as almost every game that came out recently (except for battlefield) supports widescreen resolutions.

Have you thought about hooking up to an external monitor? I don't know that there is a way to make the game take up the whole screen, but you may check your display settings, especially if you have software that came for controlling your video card. Other than that, try connecting to a normal monitor when you are playing games, there should be a VGA port (which is the normal monitor jack) somewhere on your laptop that will let you connect to another monitor.

Cvilization 4 Causing Computer to slow down massively?

I have a computer that is relatively new and should easily be able to handle Civ 4.

After installing it yesterday, my computer slowed down - the game ran perfectly but the computer itself was SLOW. It wouldn't even let me load up websites.

I installed it and it instantly got much better. Today, I checked other programs I wasn't using and uninstalled them, it totaled up to about me uninstalling 7 Gigs of stuff.

So, now that I did this, should my computer be so slow if I reinstall?

Civilization IV: The Complete Edition takes up about 3.8 gigsCvilization 4 Causing Computer to slow down massively?

You can use a registry cleaner to clean up your computer and then make your computer faster,Why?the reason is that there may be some registry errors and remnant, corrupt files and temp files in your computer to cause "computer slow".

Every time you install and uninstall software on your computer and surfing online you create junk in the computer registry.over time, the registry can grow to enormous proportions, especially if the various programs you've installed do not do a good job of deleting and/or updating it's Registry entries. You need to scan and clean your computer with registry cleaner to make it fast.Good Registry Cleaner will improve your computer and Internet performance dramatically!

  • Civ 4 installation problem.?

Ok, so I pirated Civilization IV a long time ago, and deleted it. I went out yesterday and actually purchased it and got home to install it. All it lets me do on the auto run is play, view the readme, or exit. The problem is, I no longer have it installed. I looked through old files and can't find any Civ 4 files anywhere. What can I do to check if the game is still installed in some way or to completely remove it from my system?Civ 4 installation problem.?
There are probably some registry keys for the game still there. Try using Ccleaner. (registry --%26gt; scan for issues --%26gt; fix all issues)

If that doesn't do the trick, there could be a lot more remaining from the previous installation of Civ 4. Use the Windows Installer Cleanup Utility in that case:

Which Civ 4 game should i get?

    Civilization IV: Warlords - 84 $9.99

Civilization IV: Beyond the Sword - 86 $19.99

    Sid Meier's Civilization IV: Colonization - 83 $29.99

    Sid Meier's Civilization IV - 94 $19.99

I understand the first 3 are expansions of Civ IV, so do I need to have Civ IV to play them? Is Civ IV better than Civ III (I have/think civ 3 is really good). I'm not going to buy Civ 4 if it's not that good.Which Civ 4 game should i get?
Civ IV with Warlords and BTS expansions is available as Civilization IV Complete. I'd suggest that. You cannot play Warlords or BTS without Civ IV.

It's a damn good game with a lengthy difficulty curve and an active community over at civfanatics.com. I haven't played Civ III so can't comment on that.

Which of the Sid Meier Civilization games are better?

There's 4 games that have server hosting ran by steam, the numbers next to the titles are the ratings, scale of 1 - 100.

    Civilization IV: Warlords - 84 $9.99

Civilization IV: Beyond the Sword - 86 $19.99

    Sid Meier's Civilization IV: Colonization - 83 $29.99

    Sid Meier's Civilization IV - 94 $19.99

I got a friend that has the one with the rating of 94 and it looked pretty fun when I was over there and he just happened to be on it, but it doesn't cost as much as the colonization one so I was confused on which one I should get for the best gaming experience.Which of the Sid Meier Civilization games are better?
Sid Meier's Civilization IV is the main game. The other's are just expantion packs for it. Sid Meier's Civilization IV: Colonization costs more because it just recently came out.

Okay gamers. What's better? Civilisation 4, or Civilisation Complete?

I'm trying to toss up between two different games. I know Civ IV is the later version, but is it better than Civilisation Complete? I have never played either. What's your verdicts? Make your case.

I'm more into real time strategy games like Rise of Nations and the original Age of Empires. Which Civ do you think I'd like the most?Okay gamers. What's better? Civilisation 4, or Civilisation Complete?
First off, I would just like to state that there is no game called "Civilization Complete". There are however Civ games given the subtitle complete, like "Civilization 3: Complete", and "Civilization 4: Complete"

I can tell you what my recommendations are though.

In my opinion, Civilization 3 and Civilization 5 are the best civilization games out there.

With Civilization 5, they basically re-made the gameplay, changing it quite significantly, and making it a bit easier to play on some aspects.

However, it can be quite resource demanding if you have it at full settings, and if you don't have a proper gaming computer it may result in lag. (I know from experience on my 13'' Macbook Pro)

Civilization 3 is a great game altogether, and lacks little in graphics, despite it's a bit older age.

It has amazing gameplay, and usually great performance on most computers, and is a solid game altogether for anyone.

If you like the original Age of Empires and Rise of Nations, I would probably suggest Civ 3. However, Civ 5 is a lot easier, and if you have a good computer, it can be more fun, depending on what kind of gamer you are.Okay gamers. What's better? Civilisation 4, or Civilisation Complete?
Civ 4 is more matured and sophisticated, and is generally accepted as the better iteration of Civilization when compared to 3 (which is what I assumed you're talking about).

Civilisation is a turn-based strategy game, but it's still very good! Any strategy game fan will like it. To add to that, the lead designer of Rise of Nations (Brian Reynolds) actually worked on Civ 2, so you might be able to recognize some of the design philosophy behind Civ 3 and 4. You'll like either of them, but I recommend 4 over 3.

edit: Oh, Civ 4 had a Complete release too, so I have no idea what you're talking about. Complete means that it has all the avaliable expansions, if there's a misunderstanding over that. So buy Civ 4: Complete over just Civ 4

edit2: Or, you know, get Civ 5 instead. I found it easier to get into, and they added some new victory conditions and whatnot to make it more varied.

  • Question about Civilizations 4 patch?

I just bought Civ 4 for my pc and it's been working great until today. I saw that I could download a patch off of the Civ 4 main menu, but after almost downloading the patch it gives me an error message at the very end. After the whole process is nearly complete it will just freeze at the end until I either try to minimize it's window or hit the X button at the top right. It will then tell me, 'Error 1706. No valid Source could be found for product Sid Meier's Civilization's IV. The Windows Installer Cannot continue'. After I hit ok, it tells me the update is complete. Confused, I tried to play the game anyway but after a bit of initial loading, it will cancel it's play initiation and tell me, 'Init Error. Error loading shading libraries'. So now my plan is to just uninstall the game with it's stupid patch and reinstall it while avoiding the patch in the future. I would however like to know what's going on and if there is any hope of me actually getting that full patch or not and if there was something I was doing wrong. Thanks ahead of time for any feedback!Question about Civilizations 4 patch?
Try reinstalling. Once you do, you don't have to download a patch. If you want to, check up on the website to make sure it isn't fishy.

What can I do to stop my computer from overheating every time I play a game?

Hello! I'm having an issue with my Toshiba Qosmio X500-505 whereby every time I try to play a game (GTA IV, Sim City 4, Civilization V, and so on) it overheats and shuts off in the middle of gameplay. I bought a cooling pad with USB connecting fans and it does cool down the comp, but not enough to stop the overheating. Is there anything I can do to fix this problem? What can I do to stop my computer from overheating every time I play a game?
Use compressed air and blow out the exhaust vents to make sure there is no dust buildup. Aside from that, make sure the internal fan is running ( you can stick a small scrap of paper in there if you can't tell by looking at it). If not, have it replaced. Not much you can do other than that since it's a laptop but my bet is that dust is built up in the heatsink.
try updating the bios. go to the their support site and download the newest Bios firmware they have. If that does not work then.. well for one thing what do you have it on even with the fans cooler. Do you have it on a wood or solid table? Dont put it in your lap or on the sofa leather or cloth. Try updating the graphics card too. If that does not work then the laptop was bad design and you may be out of luck. We need to mirror your drive to another computer and get a new computer. If you can get the exact same build you can just take out the harddrive, but the issue might come back since its design. Good luck. email me if you have more questions. nerdposse@cox.netWhat can I do to stop my computer from overheating every time I play a game?
Nothing really. That's why laptops are rarely ever recommended for gaming, all that equipment in such a small space causes a lot of heat.

Also, do not "hoover" it. Vacuums are a great source for electro-static discharge and that will just place kill your laptop.
It sounds like you need a new one, The fan sounds like It's broke, Have you tried hoovering it? That could also help, If none of that works You'll have to buy a new one Most likely:)What can I do to stop my computer from overheating every time I play a game?
non-gaming laptops always overheat when you play games.
make sure your room isn't in high temperature
make sure you aren't blocking the fan

Nice to see someone who appreciates music from these games!

I'm not sure about SimCity 4 but it's quite easy to extract the music from Civ IV since they're already in mp3 format. I can't recall the exact directory from my head but if you browse through the game's data folders you should be able to find the music!

I've recently bought Civs 4 for my laptop and when I start it, it immediately says that there are known compatibility issues. When I click to seach for solutions, nothing is found. When the game is launched it then comes up with a message stating that it "stopped working". I've tried running the game in compatibility modes for xp and vista, to no avail. Not sure what to do really.

Whenever I try to load Civ 4: BTS, it can't get pass the very first loading screen. The vanilla version loads fine though. I have the latest update on all my drivers, and the latest update for the game. I tried to uninstall both the update for the game, and the game itself a couple of times with no results.

My computer's specs are well above the minimum requirements, and they meet the recommended requirement:

The only problem is your RAM. You need at least 2 Megabytes. I have often observed that my Civ 4 BTS files exceed 1 Mb, especially late in the game. You should have enough room on your motherboard to add another RAM chip (aka. memory module). If not, you may need to upgrade your RAM or your motherboard.

    Civilization IV?

should i get CIV 4?Civilization IV?
If you have the computing power, absolutely! It's a great strategy game with a lot of tactical improvements over Civ III. Plus it looks and sounds slick: I love the videos, I love the historical quotes read by Leonard Nimoy, and I love the music.

All that slickness comes with a price, however. While it runs quite nicely on my 2 current Windows boxes, my old laptop -- which wasn't THAT old (1.52GHz AMD CPU, 512MB RAM) -- couldn't support it due to a lame display adapter. So check out the system requirements and if you meet the RECOMMENDED requirements (as opposed to just the minimum ones), buy Civ IV!Civilization IV?

    Civilization IV Question. ?

So in civ 4, how often do you give away technology when another ruler asks for it for free? Cuz I never do that but then I go to war with like every country. How often should I give away free tech?Civilization IV Question. ?
We must play on the same difficulty because they rarely back down for me either when I tell them "No!" With this in mind, I ask myself a few questions.

Where are they? If this is a civ on the other side of the map, then I tell them to "Stick it!"

Can I take them? If they are a neighbor I make sure I can kill any attackers from a hill or block off a choke point with good defensive units.

What do they want? I rarely give techs that allow new military units or a secret project I plan on building.

Having a superior enemy army knocking on the door of an under-defended city is about the only case where I'll give up a technology.Civilization IV Question. ?
If it's not a military tech, or if it's significantly behind yours I will give it up, but then only if the group asking is of similar or larger size, otherwise, just wipe them out.

I was installing civ.4 when it asked me to insert disc number 2. When I did my computer froze and I had to cancel the installation process. Now the game is half installed which apparently means I cannot run or uninstall it.

    I tried:

-Going to add/remove programs but the game is not on the list because it is not completely installed.

-Deleting all of the files the game had saved onto my computer.

Please help me either uninstall or reinstall the game. Thankyou!Half installed Civilization IV. Can't uninstall now.?
You shouldn't have deleted the game files manually, becuase it doesnt remove registry entries related to the game or the files added to windows\system32 folder.

But you are not too late.

First you have to make sure that the game is truly uninstalled. To do this, use system restore (start=%26gt;all pros=%26gt;accesories=%26gt;system tools=%26gt;system restore)

click next and you'll see the calendar. click on the date you installed the game and click "installed civilization 4" event and click next and you know the drill...

So after the computer is automatically restarted (and restored), you can be sure that the game is completely uninstalled.

Then you can try to re-install the game. If the disks are damaged, try copying them to your hard drive first and installing it from there.

    Civilization IV for MAC Question?

I have last years model of MacBook, and I really want to get the new Civilization. I had III years ago on my PC, but I don't really get much air time on that, I usually use my laptop. So, Here are the settings on my Mac, I just don't know what they mean... Cause I've heard you really need a Macbook pro, or custom / iMac for it to really run well.

Your specs appear to be more than adequate for Civilization IV. Below are the hardware minimums and recommendations. As you can see, you have quintuple the required RAM, and your processor speed is 40% faster than recommended. The only concern is whether you might need a video card (GeForce FX 5200 or better). For between $100 %26amp; $200, you should be able to acquire a very good card, which will help to accelerate all of your video processing.

    Civilization IV System Requirements:

    * Operating System: Mac OS X 10.3.9 or later

    * CPU Processor: PowerPC G5 or Intel chipset

    * CPU Speed: 1.8 GHz or faster

    Civilization IV: Warlords flickering screen?

Every time I try to play Civ IV, my screen flickers. It is rather annoying, and only does it some of the time. My screen never flickers unless I run a full screen game.

    My specs are:

    Processor: 2 processors running - Pentium(R) Dual-Core CPU E5200 @ 2.50 GHz

    RAM: 4.0 gigs

Vid Card: Intel(R) G33/G31 Express Chipset Family () (Crappy I know, but it shouldn't affect it that much

    HD Free: 360 gigs

Anyone got any idea?Civilization IV: Warlords flickering screen?
it sometimes does that if the game ur playing is very large and complicated.

  • Why cant I install Civilization IV?

When I try to install Civ 4 an error message comes up saying

    Feature transfer error

    Feature: Default Feature

    Component: Civ4 Component

    File:D/data2.cab

error: Data error (cyclic redundancy check)Why cant I install Civilization IV?
To answer that, I need some details about ur PC.

What am I not getting about the civilization battle mode?!?

Okay I have been trying to play civilization IV and its fun until battles come around. They make no sense. One paletori just beat 4 archers, a chariot, and a catapult... And those units were on a hill in my city (attacking not defending)... wth... I dont understand the battle mode... do I really have to attack with one weak unit at a time? Why do I fail so hard when it comes to battles?!!?!?What am I not getting about the civilization battle mode?!?
Ok what I would suggest is that you combine your forces and make an army, this is possible if you have a lot of the same unit(I belive 3) and then you form an army. Other than that I would suggest that you when takeing on a paletori take it on with a unit that is a ground force. Palitoys are very good against chariots and archers. the catipult is realy only good for bombardment of citys, keep them behind your main line.

How do I use daemon tools to install a iso file game?

I just downloaded the ISO file of Civilization 4. I know how to use it and mounted it on a virtual drive, but when i open it its another iso file... 3 to be precise. Help!

Here's the torrent: http://btjunkie.org/torrent/Civilization鈥?/a>How do I use daemon tools to install a iso file game?
You need to mount the one that is the last one inside. So basically you mount the first one, then take out the one inside that and mount it, then mount the one inside that and repeat until you reach the one with the game inside of it. The reason they do that is because it makes the file smaller and easier to download. How do I use daemon tools to install a iso file game?
That means that you have to extract those 3 iso's and mount them individually.

    Civilization IV Vanilla Question?

How do you connect cities that are on different continents in civ 4? Like I'm already dominating one continent and I just settled another city that has uranium. So how do I connect that city to my main empire?Civilization IV Vanilla Question?
To connect the uranium there to your empire, you need:

    1. A road from the city to the uranium resource.

    2. A harbour in that city that has the uranium (or a road connecting that city to a coastal city with a harbour).

    3. A harbour in your capital city (or a road connecting your capital city to a coastal city with a harbour).

    Is Civilization IV worth buying?

The complete game plus the expansions are on sale on Steam until like monday morning for only 7.50. I'm wondering because I hear 4 is the best. Like what exactly do you do in it? Is it different than a traditional RTS type game? 7.50 seems pretty good for the complete game.Is Civilization IV worth buying?
Civilization 4 is a turn based strategy game. It has a lot of depth and replayability. It also has a huge variability in difficulty (you can make it as easy or as hard as you want). You start in the "stone age" and advance your way through the ages. You don't have to destroy everyone to win, as you can also win through other means.

It is one of the BEST turn based RTS games out there. For less than $10 you can't go wrong. However, you must be into RTS games, and the micromanaging can get overwhelming sometimes.

Steam has it on sale every now and then, so if you did not buy it, you'll get another chance.

Civilization 4, how do i work w/o disk?

okay so i need help, i lost the disk for my copy of Civ IV and seeing as i have been watching the military channel i really want to play. i have a mac so i have no idea what to do, its all ready installed i just need a way to play it without the disk HELP ME INTERNET!!!!!Civilization 4, how do i work w/o disk?
    HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHA!

That games sucks, Civilization III was much better. I'd ditch IV and go get III if I were you.

Anyways, you can't do it legally. Good luck with trying.

    Civilization 4 keeps crashing?

have recently purchased and installed Civ IV Complete.

I have only played one game of Civ IV (Not yet able to finish it) but I find that it keeps crashing, so that even with the "auto save" every 4 turns, I have to try to save after every turn so as not to have to go back and do stuff again. I have not yet tried Warlords or BTS, which came with the pack, although they are installed. I have actually now reached a stage where it crashes every turn. It says "Waiting for other civilizations", but there is no movement on the screen, and then after about 20 seconds the screen goes black and the computer reboots.

I had Myst 3 Exile and the Sims 2 on my computer (Both now removed) and they played fine - no problems.

I have also tried disabeling my anti virus program, and shutting down all unnecessary applications running on the machine, with no change.

Any help would be greatly appreciatedCivilization 4 keeps crashing?
I HAD THE SAME PROBLEM. SO FREAKING ANNOYING. the short of it is, Civ 4 is a hugh memory hog. both RAM and Video. the new patches help but not enough if you have a low grade video card and RAM. i "had" a fx5200 and 1gb RAM. and i ran into this problem a lot(even w/ low settings)

Now i have totally upgrading to a new comp (Intel Core2 duo 3ghz, 2gb RAM, Nvidia 8600gt 1gb.) and it runs perfectly on all high settings with out a hick-up!!!

My recomendation would be to upgrade your video card to the 8 series for nvidia. they are cheap and the newest line of video cards out. Make sure the card you buy has 512mb of memory. this should help. also .... install the other expansions, they have the newest patches on them(except for bts).Civilization 4 keeps crashing?
Civ IV is a system hungry beast. As well as downloading the patch suggested by Bigguy check your RAM and graphics card and if need be upgrade.

You will almost definitely have to do that to play Beyond the Sword: the minimum graphics card it plays on is Nvidia GeForce 6200. Also for BtS you will probably need an unofficial patch available from Civilisation Fanatics Forum, which can be accessed through the official Civ4 site.Civilization 4 keeps crashing?
    http://www.firaxis.com/games/downloads.p鈥?/a>

go here and scroll down to your game and download the patch that will stop the crashes

    you need the v1.74 patch

oh and save that link as its got the other expansion packs patches as well
That's just civilisation 4 the game, the simulation.

Much more worrying is that CIVILISATION keeps crashing (I mean the real thing).

Civilization 4 help, dont get it?

    hi,

iv played the demo of civ 4 but i still dont get it....i really need a guideline of the objectives of this game and how everything or mostly things work there, and once i understand it, will it be a very enjoyable game? if so, i'm looking very forward to buying it.

*its a lot more different from age of empires!!*Civilization 4 help, dont get it?
Easy strategy.. Build 2 or 3 defending units, then build a settler, start a new town, build 2 or 3 defending units then build a settler. in the meantime start building improvements and build roads to your towns. you can put the guys on auto, so they do everyone on their own. Don't stop with a few towns, keep building towns every 4-5 spaces from the previous town. do this until you reach another civilization and then build all attacking units in all towns, and conquer the *****!!! do this until you;ve conquered everyone, NO ALLIES. ALLIES are for wimps. Watch out, game play slows down more and more as you reveal more mapCivilization 4 help, dont get it?
it is a turn-based Empire-building game, as AoE is an RTS.

Just look for teh help phile on teh disk or on the internet, yo.

    Civilization IV Installation Problems?

I am trying to install Civilization IV that I bought as a digital download. The process goes with no problems, but now as a last step the activation window launches. It says - Finishing Installation, Activating Your Product, Connecting to the Internet and then just goes completely blank within seconds (the whole window turns white and does nothing anymore). I've tried this more than 10 times, and I am very sure I am connected to the internet.

I have Windows Vista 64bit, but I have selected for the game to run in Windows XP compatibility mode. I don't think that's the problem as the game is not even at the point to launch yet, it just want activate, but thought I'd mention it.

I sent an e-mail to their tech support, but knowing how fast they were responding the previous time (4 days), I thought I check here too.

Thanks in advance for any help, much appreciated.Civilization IV Installation Problems?
If you haven't been successful yet, try to manually install the game.

Insert your CD/DVD into your disk drive.

Open up your local hard drive.

    Go to File, New, Folder.

Name this folder "Disk Images." or whatever you like.

If more than one disk. Go into the "Disk Images" folder and create another folder called "Disk1." If you're installing a version with an expansion with multiple disks, create folders for each disk. Label them "Disk2," "Disk3" and "Disk4." It's important you don't put a space in between "Disk" and the number you use.

Open up "My Computer" and select your CD. If the autorun comes up, cancel it as well as the installation.

    Right-click the CD. Click "Explore."

Click on the "Edit" tab at the top of the window and choose "Select All." You can also press CTRL+A.

Click on the "Edit" tab again and select "Copy." CTRL+C also works.

Head into your "Disk1" folder. Go to the "Edit" tab and select "Paste." CTRL+V works as well. Continue until you've copied and pasted the information from all the disks into their appropriate folders.

Find the autorun file in the "Disk1" folder and double click it. This should install the game as normal. When you are finished, you can delete the "Disk Images" folder.

Hope this will solve your problem.

    Help uninstalling Civ IV ?

ok after upgrading to version 1.74 i've noticed some problems with civ... It wouldn't recognize "Disc 1" as the correct disc, even though I know that it is. So i decided to uninstall civ and later reinstall it. But the problem is for some reason I'm not able to uninstall civ. So I decided to search my entire computer for anything labeled "Civilization IV", "Civ 4", and all other possible variants. Now when I insert Disc 1 a menu pops up with the options of Install, Readme, and Exit (they used to be the same, except instead of "Install" it was "Play")... but when I click Install an error window pops up saying that version 1.74 is already installed. What can I do?!?!?!?!? Civ 4 still shows up in the uninstall programs list... but it still displays an error when I try to uninstall it... I'm sure I've gotten rid of ALL files related to Sid Meier, Civilization 4, and Firaxis Games but it still won't work!!! WHAT SHOULD I DO???Help uninstalling Civ IV ?
Do the following to completely remove CivIV manually:

Start the registry editor (regedit) and delete the following keys:

    " HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Wi鈥?entVersion\Uninstall\{CFBCE791-2D53-4FCE鈥?"

    then Reinstall

Do you want to remove the game completely? then you'll also need to delete all other Firaxis and Civilization and Civ keys in the registry

"HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Firaxis Games - (or reinstall and run the uninstaller which is safer):

Delete all of the following directories that the uninstaller does not remove itself:

    "...\documents and settings\%26lt;username%26gt;\my documents\my games\sid meier's civilization 4"

    "...\documents and settings\%26lt;username%26gt;\application data\my games\sid meier's civilization 4"

  • Will Civilization IV run on this computer?

I just recently bought a new Dell Optiplex GX520 which I am waiting to arrive at my place in a couple of days. I know that this computer is more of a business machine but I was curious to know if it would run the following games of Civilization IV era:

    - Civilization IV

    - Civilization IV: Warlords (expansion pack)

    - Civilization IV: Beyond the Sword (expansion pack)

    - Civilization IV: Colonization

These are the specifications of the machine:

    CPU - Intel Pentium 4 3.0Ghz

    Memory (RAM) - 2GB DDR2

Hard Drive - 80GB SATA II

    Sound - Onboard

Video - Onboard Intel GMA 950 with 224MB shared memory

    LAN - Gigabit Ethernet LAN

Optical Drive - DVD-RW (DVD Burner)

    Power Supply - 220 Watts

Operating System - Windows XP Pro SP3

The system requirements for a basic Civilization IV game with the two expansions are as follows:

    Windows 2000/XP/Vista

    1.2 GHz Processor

    256 MB RAM

    1.7 GB free space

    4x DVD Drive

DirectX 9.0c 鈥揷ompatible 64 MB video card with hardware T%26amp;L %26amp; pixel shader

    DirectX 9.0c-compatible sound card

But on the other hand, Civilization IV: Colonization requires a tad more Memory with specifications as follows:

    OS: Windows 2000/XP/Vista

    RAM: 512 MB

CPU: 1.2 GHz (1.8 GHz for full)

    Disc drive:4x CD-ROM drive

HDD: 900 MB free disk space

Video: DirectX 9.0c-compatible 64 MB (128 MB for full) video card with Shader 1.1 support

    Sound: DirectX 9.0c compatible

I have looked at these various System requirements and almost all suit the computer but one, the computer's video card. As I said earlier, it comes with Intel GMA 950 on-board graphics with shared memory of 224MB. Here's a link to this at Intel's website:

    http://www.intel.com/products/chipsets/g鈥?/a>

Anyway, all I am asking if someone knowledgeable with computers could do a little research on this video card and whether it will or won't play Civilization IV, it's expansion packs and Colonization. Will Civilization IV run on this computer?
Based on the technical specifications of the onboard Video for the Intel GMA950, there shouldn't be any problems with the games, however you may have to turn down some of the graphic settings.

If you have some extra cash, you may want to consider buying a Video Card which would give you better performance for some games. Will Civilization IV run on this computer?
All onboard video chips currently available on the market have T%26amp;L, as well as Shader 1.1 support, so don't worry - your machine is more than capable to run Civ 4. Great game series, by the way! ;)Will Civilization IV run on this computer?
it will be more than enough. civilization is the most under spec friendly type of game to begin with and your system should be able to run it really well.
To be sure, just get a decent graphics card...NVIDIA or ATI...

I have a problem for Civilization IV?

My sister had the same problem. She finally decided to talk with her boyfriends mother. It was akward but well worth it. I would say at least try to find out why she feels that way.

Can the ATI Mobility Radeon鈩?HD550v, 64-Bit, 1GB, DDR3 run civilization IV smoothly on any setting?

I have this card coming with my new laptop and was wondering if i could finally play civil 4, instead of civil 3 all these years. Can the ATI Mobility Radeon鈩?HD550v, 64-Bit, 1GB, DDR3 run civilization IV smoothly on any setting?
    Civilization IV requirements

    Windows 2000/XP/Vista

I would say it will definitely run smoothly, on what quality or resolution i cannot be sure, but my guess would be med-high quality.

How Do You Delete Old Games Off Civilization 4, On Mac?

I cant figure out how to delete my old games, iv tried retiring but its still there, i have one on single player i dont want but more old multi player ones, does anyone know how? im on a mac book. thank =)How Do You Delete Old Games Off Civilization 4, On Mac?
probably the same way you do it on a windows based PC...find the save game directory, and delete your save games.

if you don't know where it saves to, try starting a game and making a new save. name the save something you'll remember, like "sam's_game_01" for example. then use the search function on the mac, if it has one (similar to the windows search for files and folders function - on the start menu in windows). that should tell you the directory it's saved to.

now, go to that directory and delete anything with the file extension .SAV, or what ever the extension following "sam's_game_01" is. those will be your save game files.

    good luck!

  • Why does my Civilization 4 game run so slow?

I'm fairly certain it's my graphics card, but I'd like to know for sure before I buy some upgrades. I have a 2.5 Ghz Pentium IV processor with 512 RAM. My graphics card is a 64mb RAM one. The graphics card meets the minimum, but the game goes slow and is almost unplayable once your country gets really big (and has lots of units on the screen) Is it time to go to Best Buy to get an upgrade on my card? I would not recomend any game player use less than 1GB RAM these days.

Best option, 2GB RAM and 256bit Video, then you will be able to run almost anything.

    Civilization Revolution IV Differences?

What is the difference between civilization 4, civilization 4 warlords %26amp; civilization 4 beyond the sword?

im looking to start a new game and wondering if they were just expansions

i don't know which to start onCivilization Revolution IV Differences?
Civ 4 is the basic game, released on 2005-10-26, the details of which you can view here:

    http://www.2kgames.com/civ4/home.htm

    http://www.firaxis.com/games/game_detail鈥?/a>

I played it for about one year until the first expansion pack, Warlords, was released on 2006-11-13, which I preordered and played for less than one year. You can observe it here:

    http://www.2kgames.com/civ4/warlords/war鈥?/a>

    http://www.firaxis.com/games/game_detail鈥?/a>

I also preordered the second expansion pack, Beyond the Sword, which was released 2007-07-23, and I have played that version ever since, for more than a year. It is so much better than Warlords that I strongly recommend it, and Warlords is an unnecessary augment. You can see it here.

    http://www.2kgames.com/civ4/beyondtheswo鈥?/a>

    http://www.firaxis.com/games/game_detail鈥?/a>

There are no other expansions, and the next version (Civ 5) is probably a year away. Civilization Revolution ( http://www.gamespot.com/xbox360/strategy鈥?/a> ) was released 2008-07-11 for game consoles, and is not available for PC. Civilization IV: Colonization ( http://www.firaxis.com/games/game_detail鈥?/a> ) is the newest version (released 2008-09-22), but it is much simpler than the original Civ 4.

Can you elaborate on this Civilization 4 issue?

I installed the game Civilization IV onto the computer. (I've had the game for a while, but it didn't work well on my last computer.) Now that I've gone and installed it without a hitch, I finally popped in the cd to play it but when I tried to play it, it gave me this message:

This application has failed to start because D3DX9_26.DLL was not found. Re-installing the application may fix this problem.

What do I do with the dll once I've downloaded it, it still won't work? Do I open it to a compressed folder? Can you elaborate on this Civilization 4 issue?
First of all just try re-installing if it doesnt work still download the .dll file from a safe site and scan it for viruses and put the .dll file into your game file.

Drag the .dll from winwar, winzip into the game folder im guessing its called Civilization4 and it should workCan you elaborate on this Civilization 4 issue?
Don't bother with the DLL on it's own. The issue is that you're using an old or corrupted version of DirectX, what you need to do is re-install DirectX 9.0c. This usually can be found with most new games, or is available online.

    Why can't I un-install Civilization IV so I can re-install it?

Well i tried to download the 1.74 patch so I could play multiplayer then it closed my game.. I then tried to re-open the game but it wouldn't allow me so I tried to un-install the game. This didn't work as I got this message:

Did you uninstall the patch too? You might have to do that, since installing the patch changed the original program. You may also try just reinstalling overtop of the current installation, without uninstalling first; or try a "repair" installation - I *think* that's an option but I don't remember for sure.

so i just bought civilization IV and was very excited about it. i played the original age of emipres growing up and thought this might be fun. however, getting started has proven nearly impossible. i cannot figure anything out whatsoever. i did the tutorial but it left so much out. i have no clue how to see how much it costs to do stuff, what all these symbols mean, how to understand the examine city page, how to attack cities, basically everything, i just don't get it. i mean it seems like i can just choose to build everything at once and just keep clicking end turn over and over. please, i spent $40 on this game and would like enjoy it. if you can provide me with some pretty basic information to get started and whatnot then I will personaly give you $1 million dollars cash (that's and outright lie btw). just assume that i know nothing in your exlanation, but also im a fairly smart person and can learn quickly. feel free to bash me for being a noob or whatever you call it, i dont play computer games very much, if ever. Happy Holidays and thank you very muchCIVILIZATION 4, please Help Me?
First off, your city needs resources to grow. When it grows, other things produced becomes available faster. Lets say an archer? You'll be able to produce it faster. To get resources you need workers. Train them in your city. Once you trained them, move them over a resource. A simple way to find out is to use the show resource button at the button left left. Once you built your resources you can build roads to connect to your city. Again take the worker and when the options come up from the button. Select traderoute or something. While you're doing this you're going to be asked what you want to research. Just pick one. Then start building units and what nots. Been playing for a month now.

First -- if you have not done so already, try using the Add / Remove programs utility in your Windows Control Panel. You can find step by step screenshots and instructions on how to do this at this reference site: http://uninstallmysoftware.com

If that doesn't work, or if the software does not show up at all in your control panel, then follow these steps:

    - Step 1 - Select and download any good software uninstaller application that has a free demo or trial version and try that first. Most of the time the free version is enough to fix the problem - (there are some good ones listed at the link above).

    - Step 2 - Install and run the free software uninstaller you selected and follow its instructions carefully - you will see a screen with a listing of all the programs installed on your PC; often more programs than those normally listed in your Add / Remove control panel.

    - Step 3 - Find the software you want to uninstall, then select and click "uninstall". All good uninstaller software will do the rest automatically. This next part is very important:

    - Step 4 - Sometimes you also have to clean up your computer's PC registry and remove leftover software keys from the uninstalled software after running the uninstaller. Some of the more advanced "pro" version uninstaller programs have this feature already built into it and will do the registry cleanup and backup automatically but some don't. If yours doesn't, then just use RegCure it usually works just as good -- you can find a free link to it on the reference site above. If your uninstaller software does have a registry cleaner built into it - be sure to use it !How to manually uninstall Civilization IV for Windows 7?

Update failed for Civilization IV (game) Now it won't run or uninstall!! Can somebody please help me?

I just bought the game new yesterday from a legitimate dealer, the game installed successfully

but when I tried to download an update patch (version 6.34 to 7.16 I think) Windows' install wizard said something like it could not find the authorization code, but the civ4 updater claimed at the same time that the installation was successful.

Now whem I try to run it I get a notification saying that The application failed to start because D3DX9_32.DLL was not found and says that Re-installing may help.

So I check the start menu and there is no civ4 uninstaller.

Then I go to Add/Remove Programs and the notification reads:

"An error {Error Code: -5004 : 0x80041f42} has occured while running the setup.

Just call the customer service number on the box.

It wouldn't hurt to call/go back to the 'legitimate dealer' you brought the game from and tell them. If the game doesn't work, he should be able to replace it for you free of charge (and he will deal with the customer service number on the box). :)

Theoretically it will work, but you're going to run into problems with the 915GM, which doesn't meet the minimum graphics requirements. There's a demo you can download, so do that.

Moving to islands in Civilization 4?

Just started playing Civ on my computer and I am trying to attack another army in Civilization IV but the army is on an island. How do I move to an island in this game.Moving to islands in Civilization 4?
    1) Build a city on the coast so you have a port

    2) Build a transport ship like a galley

    3) Put your troops onto the transport ship and

    4) When you get to the enemy continent, select the units on your transport ship and move them onto the land.

Moving to islands in Civilization 4?
You have to go through a series of technologies to discover sailing. Discover all of the technologies involving water until you can build a galleon or some other vessel. Send a few units over to the island with that, drop them off, go back, and repeat until you have enough units to take the entire island yourself. Have fun and good luck. Hope this helped.

Civilization IV - Hints, Tips and general suggestions Please?

I'm playing Civilization IV now on Noble Level however I am finding it very hard to compete with the computer. More often than not 3-4 nations will declare war on me. From there on in its a down hill battle to a game that I would normally be losing on by points anyway.

Any hints or tips would be appreciated.Civilization IV - Hints, Tips and general suggestions Please?
Try to expand peacefully: give tributes to your neighbours and try to adopt their religion. Keep in mind: it's impossible to maintain good relationships with everyone - so remember, it's always better to fight with distant enemies. Also, don't trade open borders with anyone, it helps keep opponents' armies away.

Build armies. Build barracks as early as you can. Research mining -%26gt; bronze working -%26gt; iron working. Use your warriors, archers, longbowmen, musketmen, machine guns, mechanized infantry for defence. Don't forget to build axemen in early ages, since they're good against every unit of ancient era. Take note of what units your opponent uses against you; for example, swordsmen aren't really useful when confronting axemen, meanwhile axemen, crossbowmen, macemen are effective against all melee units. In later ages, use grenadiers against riflemen, riflemen against cavalry, build infantry, machine guns and marines. Don't forget your air forces when in modern age. I suck at naval strategy though, sorry.

and one more thing: don't give up if somebody declares a war. Try to offer them a peace treaty as soon as possible and try to get through to modern age no matter what - it's where the real game begins!Civilization IV - Hints, Tips and general suggestions Please?

How do I win space race on Civilization IV?

I've been trying to win the space race in Sid Meyer's Civ 4 and I keep ending up at about two pieces away when time runs on the game. Anyone know a better way, just tips or a little strategic help, to actually get it completed BEFORE the game ends? I don't want a step by step walk through, just some guidance. How do I win space race on Civilization IV?
That question could lead to some long answers indeed. But here are some pointers that I've picked up along the way, all having to do with technology:

    1. Get ahead early! Don't ignore technology for money or troops early in the game. Research Writing and get those libraries completed.

    2. Don't worry about gaining lots of money early on in the game. Make sure that your research level remains high. If you have gained money from huts, don't feel pressured to keep it. If you are only losing 1 gold a turn but have 150 gold from various sources, don't be afraid to leave it that way for a while for the sake of research.

    3. Here's a trick I found out while researching your question: monasteries give +10% science too!

    4. Use any great scientists you get to build their academies in cities! +50% science cannot be ignored, however tempting the short term goal of getting an instant tech may be!

    5. There can be a lot of improvements to chose from later in the game, but just like libraries, the observatories, laboratories, and universities that come along later should not be ignored.

    6. If you are still having trouble, choose a race/leader that has better research capabilities, such as the Russians, French, and Koreans who have special buildings that help with science, or Lincoln and Elizabeth, who have the Philosophical leader traits. (Just to name a few of each)

Finally, choose where your improvements/academies/etc. go wisely. Don't bother trying to help a city that's only producing 2 science a turn. Then the money vs. research battle rears its ugly head and you are paying but not getting your moneys worth. Make a rule for yourself on when to start building research improvements, such as when a city starts making 8 science a turn (that's a random number, I change my number every game). The early game will decide the end game, and if you aren't ahead early, you can forget a space race win. Building the space ship parts is easy enough, getting there with decent time left to build them is what is important.

    Good Luck!
